El Cinco de mayo is celebrated to celebrate the Mexican army’s victory over France at the battle of Puebla. This occurred during the Franco-Mexican Wai in 1862. It is celebrated on may 5 as you can tell. And no Cinco de Mayo and independence day are not the same thing!! The difference is when they happened. As I said before Cinco de Mayo is celebrated for the battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. But Mexican’s independence day occurred on September 16,1810.
Personally my family and I don’t celebrate this day. We just say something like, ”oh it’s el Cinco de Mayo hoy.” That's all we say if it wasn’t for today’s blog I would have not known why el Cinco de Mayo is celebrated. I’m glad that now I know why it is celebrated!
